Teletherapy (Telehealth)

Teletherapy, also called “Virtual Therapy” or “Telehealth,” allows a therapist to meet with clients using web-based video conferencing technology that is HIPAA compliant.  Teletherapy provides a convenient alternative to face-to-face office visits.  Many, but not all commercial insurances, cover teletherapy/telehealth.  For those commercial insurances that do, we can provide services under your insurance.  Maryland law states that teletherapy can only be provided by a counselor licensed in the State of Maryland, and that the client must be a resident of Maryland.

Couples Therapy

Couples Therapy is a type of therapy in which a licensed therapist helps individuals involved in a romantic relationship gain insight into their relationship, resolve conflicts, and improve relationship satisfaction through the use of various therapeutic tools and interventions.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy, also called “family counseling,” is a form of therapeutic treatment in which a licensed therapist helps a family address specific issues affecting the health and functioning of the family unit. To do this, family therapists partner with the family to help family members improve communication, solve family problems, understand and improve family dynamics, facilitate deeper empathy, reduce family conflict, and create a better functioning home environment. This type of intervention can be used to help a family through a difficult period of time, a major life transition, or when one or more family members has an emotional, relationship, or mental health problem.

Life Coaching

Life Coaching can assist with personal growth, professional development, relationship coaching, communication skills, building self-confidence and personal power, achieving greater inner peace and balance, and enhancing levels of organization and productivity.

Individual Therapy

Individual Therapy (sometimes called “psychotherapy,” “talk therapy,” or “counseling”) is a process in which a client works one-one-one with a licensed therapist to explore an emotional, relationship, or mental health issue. Many therapeutic approaches are evidence-based, which means their effectiveness has been supported by research studies and clinical observations. At Therapy Cafe, our licensed, trained therapists provide a safe, naturing, and confidential environment where clients are free to explore their feelings, beliefs, and behaviors.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy uses a variety of play and creative arts techniques to alleviate chronic, mild, and moderate psychological and emotional conditions in children that are causing behavioral problems and/or preventing children from realizing their full potential.  The therapist uses the child’s imagination and the symbolic meaning of his or her play as a method for understanding and communicating with the child.  Play therapy can be used for children ages 3 through 12.

Art Therapy

Art Therapy uses the creative process of art to improve and enhance the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of children, adolescents, and adults.  This approach can assist clients in resolving conflicts and problems, developing interpersonal skills, expressing feelings, reducing stress, enhancing self-esteem, and achieving greater self-awareness and insight.  Art therapy is a form of expressive therapy that uses various techniques, such as drawing, painting, sculpting, or collage.  Individuals do not need to have artistic ability or a special talent to benefit from art therapy and people of all ages, including children, teens, and adults can benefit from it.

Group Therapy

Group Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that involves a therapist working with several people at the same time.  Groups typically range in size from 3 to 12 individuals and last for a designated period of time, such as 90 minutes per week.  The precise manner in which the session is conducted depends on the goal and focus of the group, as well as the style of the therapist.  At Therapy Cafe, therapy groups form on an as needed basis.  Stay tuned for announcements about upcoming Group Therapy events on our homepage as well as our newsletter.

Energy Healing/Reiki

Energy Healing, including Reiki, targets the energy fields around the body.  This holistic approach aims to help the flow of energy and remove blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure.  Improving the flow of energy around the body can enable relaxation, reduce pain, relieve stress, and reduce other symptoms of illness.
