Teletherapy (Telehealth)

Teletherapy, also called “Virtual Therapy” or “Telehealth,” allows a therapist to meet with clients using web-based video conferencing technology that is HIPAA compliant.  Teletherapy provides a convenient alternative to face-to-face office visits.  Many, but not all commercial insurances, cover teletherapy/telehealth.  For those commercial insurances that do, we can provide services under your insurance.  Maryland law states that teletherapy can only be provided by a counselor licensed in the State of Maryland, and that the client must be a resident of Maryland.

Family Therapy, also called “family counseling,” is a form of therapeutic treatment in which a licensed therapist helps a family address specific issues affecting the health and functioning of the family unit. To do this, family therapists partner with the family to help family members improve communication, solve family problems, understand and improve family dynamics, facilitate deeper empathy, reduce family conflict, and create a better functioning home environment. This type of intervention can be used to help a family through a difficult period of time, a major life transition, or when one or more family members has an emotional, relationship, or mental health problem.

Many therapeutic approaches are evidence-based, which means their effectiveness has been supported by research studies and clinical observations. At Therapy Cafe, our licensed, trained therapists provide a safe, naturing, and confidential environment where clients are free to explore their feelings, beliefs, and behaviors.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy uses a variety of play and creative arts techniques to alleviate chronic, mild, and moderate psychological and emotional conditions in children that are causing behavioral problems and/or preventing children from realizing their full potential.  The therapist uses the child’s imagination and the symbolic meaning of his or her play as a method for understanding and communicating with the child.  Play therapy can be used for children ages 3 through 12.

Medication Management

Medication management refers to the process of ensuring that patients are receiving the appropriate medications in the correct doses and at the appropriate times to achieve the desired therapeutic outcomes while minimizing the risks of adverse effects. This involves a collaborative effort between healthcare providers, patients, and their caregivers to effectively manage medication regimens. Monitoring for therapeutic effectiveness and adverse effects is critical in medication management. Healthcare providers regularly review patients’ medication regimens to ensure that they are achieving the desired therapeutic outcomes and to identify any potential problems or adverse effects. If a medication is not working as expected or is causing adverse effects, the healthcare provider may adjust the dosage, switch to a different medication, or discontinue the medication altogether. In summary, effective medication management is essential to optimizing patient outcomes, reducing the risk of adverse effects, and improving quality of life. It involves a comprehensive approach that includes accurate medication reconciliation, patient education, monitoring for therapeutic effectiveness and adverse effects, and timely adjustments to medication regimens as needed.
